Preparing for Your Future

Recommended Courses

A group of high school and two-year degree college teachers, called the ATEEC Fellows, have systematically analyzed the kinds of knowledge and skills needed for success in the environmental technology (ET) field. Their analysis is based upon the underlying math, science, technical, critical-thinking, and communications skills used to perform tasks commonly found in a variety of ET occupations.

Other Recommendations

To better understand the ET field and its various occupations, you may wish to do one or more of the following:

  • Arrange to "job shadow" people in ET occupations.
  • Contact a teacher in a local community college that has one of the ET programs. The programs may be known by many different names, such as "Hazardous Materials Technology," "Water and Wastewater Treatment," and "Waste Management" to name only a few.
  • If you cannot find people locally who can tell you about the ET field, contact ATEEC.
  • Ask your teacher if your school has the ATEEC environmental technology careers video, "Walk Along the River."
